The Design of Space Force Flags

In the summer of 2020, the Space Force organization began selecting designs and emblems for Space Force flags and different groups within the organization. They selected service patches and emblem criteria for each of the three Field Commands and the other levels of organization, which include Squadrons, Deltas, and Space Base Deltas. Each level has a distinct shape. Each Field Command also has a unique border color, a tradition adopted from the U.S. Army.

Instead of conventional textile patches, the Space Force chose to construct emblem patches from polyvinyl chloride (PVC) starting in 2021. These patches have an almost three-dimensional level of detail.

These unique design decisions highlight a careful balance between original design ideas created by Space Force units and compliance with Department of the Air Force (DAF) policies. The organizations involved in providing and approving the final choices for Space Force flags and emblems include:
