About the Department of Homeland Security (DHS)

Official Department of Homeland Security Flag Features & Characteristics
The official flags representing DHS incorporate the following features and characteristics.
Design
The Department of Homeland Security flag carries the DHS seal in its center, a white American eagle encircled by a blue field. A shield centered on the breast of the eagle is divided into three sections containing elements that represent U.S. land, air, and sea. A dark blue sky along the top of the flag has 22 stars, representing the original 22 agencies that joined together to create DHS.
Material and Durability
We manufacture all flags using high-quality nylon or woven polyester to ensure the flag remains weather-resistant and vibrant in color. A double-stitched edge and four rows of fly stitching allow for exceptional durability against wear and tear in harsh environmental conditions.
Size and Dimensions
Official Department of Homeland Security flags come in various dimensions, 3x5 ft. to 6x10 ft. designed for both indoor and parade display and outdoor flagpole use. Each size is manufactured with precise attention to detail for consistency in both quality and design.
Other DHS Flags
Embassy Flag offers the following types of DHS flags.
Customs and Border Protection
The official United States Customs Service flag contains a field of 16 vertical red and white stripes. The white canton showcases the Customs and Border Protection logo—a blue U.S. coat of arms with an arch of 13 stars across the top and a blue American eagle with outstretched wings.
Border Patrol
The U.S. Border Patrol (USBP) is a federal law enforcement agency under the US Customs and Border Protection. The dark green U.S. Border Patrol flag has a golden yellow border with a centered Border Patrol emblem, which is surrounded by 23 stars and the USBP’s date of establishment. Each star represents the distinct units and sectors of the department.
Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA)
Adapted from the Great Seal of the United States, the shield and eagle on the FEMA flag represent preparedness and vigilance. The light blue FEMA logo background has historical significance with FEMA. The white triangle stands for civil defense, and the motto "PACE AC BELLO MERITA" translates to "service in peace and war" for FEMA's responsibilities in natural and manmade emergencies. The dark blue band on the insignia designation refers to the agency’s responsibility and federal authority.
Coast Guard
While somewhat unusual among the U.S. armed forces, the U.S. Coast Guard has two distinct flags. One is a military standard used for ceremonial occasions. The other flag is an ensign used by Coast Guard cutters (the service term used for ships or vessels) and shore establishments.
Similar to the U.S. Customs Service flag, the Coast Guard ensign contains vertical red stripes with a white canton, but with a badge on the fly. The Coast Guard ensign is always flown with the National ensign, never by itself. The Coast Guard standard is white with a yellow fringe and dark blue U.S. Coat of Arms. It features the number "1790," indicating the year the U.S. Revenue Cutter Service (the Coast Guard’s ancestor) was established.
