The state flag contains the coat of arms for The Canary Islands in the center blue band. "The Canaries" are a chain of islands and an autonomous region of Spain. The islands are located off the northwest coast of mainland Africa, approximately 100 kilometers west of the southern border of Morocco at Western Sahara.
