Outdoor San Francisco city flags are USA made of nylon flag material and are finished with a canvas heading and two brass grommets on the hoist side, 2 rows of stitching top and bottom sides and 4 rows of stitching on the fly side.  N/A The city flag was selected from a design contest held in 1900, six years prior to the 1906 earthquake. The emblem is symbolic to six major fires during the gold rush years 1849-1851. The first portion of the flag motto "Gold in Peace" refers to the Gold Rush era, the second half..."iron in warfare" refers to San Francisco's role as the point of debarkment for troops to the Philippines in 1898 during the Spanish American War.
